A present that can save you money is to give your family some VoIP kit for making phone calls over Skype or similar.
You can buy dedicated phones that plug into a USB port (Aria has one for £9.95+VAT as a special offer on http://www.aria.co.uk/specials.asp at the moment), but the trouble is that you need the PC to be always switched on. A better option is a box that switches between the PC and a direct phone connection - Aria have one (code TEL-E-ZI-PHONEBO) at the bottom of their specials page at the moment for £14.95+VAT :

[you probably have to go via the appropriate specials page to get the special price]
Must admit I'm a big fan of Aria - they're very efficient (usually it's same-day turn-round) and their specials pages are good for cheap MP3 players (roughly £20, £30, £40 for 256MB, 512MB and 1GB) and trashy radio-controlled toys (they have been 99p at times!)
Also worth mentioning on this board the list I made on the Photography board a while back of online photo printing places - there's all sorts of things you can print digital photos onto - and you don't have to stick with photos, they can just be designs or slogans created by you or someone else. If it's in JPG format, they can print it :-)

Skimming the Photobox page at http://www.photobox.co.uk/gifts.html I see they can now laser-etch a photo into glass, which looks rather cool from the pic and would be good for important photos like christenings etc. Would certainly erase any doubts about the longevity of digital photos!
