I today dialled 1471 and found a number 006149xxxxxx was the last caller.

DAK what this is? I can't recall seeing a number with two leading zeros before.

Thanks in advance.

I know if you make a phone call, the 00 means you're phoning abroad, then the next (2?) digits are the country code.

International number maybe?

Try searching for international codes and see if it fits the number?

International codes start 00.

001 is USA.
0061 is Australia.

An international number. 00 for International, 61 identifies the country (in this case Australia)

00 1 123 123 1234 is standatd N America format.

Try phoning it. You have probably "won" a place on a cruise!

Thanks to all for suggestions.

Curiosity got the better of me and I dialled it, to get an American female recorded message saying "the number is being checked for trouble".

Strange!

Regards,

Staffordian

Hi,

I wasn't aware that international numbers were able to come up on 1471.

I think your 006149xxx number was probably a telesales call or something of that ilk. They usually have wierd numbers.

Yes, many countries have compatible Caller-ID systems. It works on mobiles from almost any country. Landlines are a bit more of a lottery.

The law has changed recently to allow callcentres to provide a "spoof" return number. Previously their outgoing-only ISDN phonelines had no number, so you got number unavailable. Now they are allowed to provide a "spoof" number for you to call back. Not sure they'd be allowed to return an international one though.

Couldn't be an incoming international call. 1471 doesn't reveal the number. Just says we do not have the callers number to return the call

If you type the number as 614-xxx-xxxx into google it will act as a phone directory and tell you the person.

I used to live in Ohio and that code is for Columbus (the state capital)

It used to be the case that international calls didn't leave a number retrievable via 1471 or caller display, but I had a call with a number similar to yours and it turned out to be a financial institution, through some convoluted off shore/foreign call centre/interweb diverted call system.

I had called the number back to get an automated voice, but got them when they phoned me again and saw the number that came up again. They couldn't explain it, and they were based in New Delhi!

I tried that before posting, but it came up with no hits.

The number was 001 614 922 9800.

I reckon Rick (Imbolc) has it right - and others have suggested similar - a call centre operation with some wierd and wonderful connection (or false number)

Thanks again for all the responses.

It's very rare for anyone to list their full international number. Even on a website. In fact, even if they did, it would be listed as +1 614..., because not all countries use 00 to access International Dialling.

As tennisball suggested, you should try searching in standard US format, which would be either 614-922-9800 or (614) 922-9800
But still no matches for those :o(
