My daughter, who is still at school and therefore living with us, was told by the Halifax that she couldn't open and account with them without ID and a utility bill in her name.

Natwest allow you to open their children's Adapt account online with proof of identity sent by post or checked in branch. Provides kids of 12+ a Visa debit card and, once they reach 16, online banking.

I foolishly thought I'd nip to the branch only to be told this nonsense about waiting for an advisor.

After 30 minutes I walked out and posted the info.

All the docs I sent came back within a few days.

They accepted my daughters' NHS cards as proof of ID as I recall.
