I think that you have already put a load of history into your forgettery!

Once upon a time, the Halifax was a large and stable mutual. If I remember correctly it was the UK's largest Building Society. In your apparent eagerness to blame all the ills of the world on Brown and socialism you are perhaps overlooking the financial consequences caused by the ideologically motivated drive to demutualisation.

I don't believe that politics has any place on this board, but I do not care to let such selective memory pass unchallenged.
