As stated in my OP, the data are for the current year and 2012 forecasts (not historic). They are from here:

There have been some movements in the price levels and forecasts since I did the calcs. The latest figures from Digitallook give 5.7% and 5.9% for AZN (CY and 2012) vs 5.7% and 6.1% for GSK.

Not much in it, currently, purely on a yield basis. You pays your money & takes your pick. ;0)

I will hold my hand up to not having done enough work on GSK and will need to put more effort into studying the historic track record and judging the sustainability/growth potential of their current and future cashflows. This is important in assessing how safe that promised yield looks. On the bald figures it looks attractive, which is why I hold, but one does have to look beyond that...
