Hi n1n,

Two directors taking salaries of £30k each. £60k annual profits must mean the company is worth somewhere around £500k.

we have to have accreditation. The criteria for this takes around two years to satisfy.

Which makes the company more valuable still. As does the existing order book you mentioned earlier.

I think at 60 I'd definitely be looking to sell up and retire. Sounds like the £35k you have put in previously was a decent investment ;o)

Any suggestions as to how I could make this more palatable for him?

Get an offer with money on the table. At least get a professional valuation. Especially if he is ill, I can't see why he would want to continue with something he obviously finds stressful.
