I have had an account with the Dunfermline Building Society for about 10 years, opened early 2001.

I recall that I had to hold an account for > 5 years to avoid Charitable Assignment if they de-mutualised.

Now they have had a partial takeover by the Nationwide. I wanted to change my account type but maintain my length of membership, I was told that as I was not a member from pre 1997 I have become caught by the Charitable Assignment rules. However this date is the Nationwide date and not the terms that applied when I joined the Dunfermline.

Does anyone know the situation?
